STOP PRESS: NEW VEHICLE...

My new vehicle is the Citroen DS3 in yellow with a black roof. Amazing car to drive!

By far the best car I have ever driven and perfect for both learning and teaching!

Emmisions < 100 g/km
TOP GEAR Car of the year 2010
Beautifully styled funky car inside and out!

My current tuition vehicle is the Citoen DS3 I chose this vehicle because it is the most amazing car, comfortable, reliable, rediculously low emmisions, yet swish, sporty and one of the most eye-catching cars on the road.

The DS3 D-Style Plus is a top spec vehicle, with automatic digital air conditioning which is in my opinion essential for an instructor car to prevent windows misting up!

Like most instructors I use a diesel engine as they have more power at low revs, which means you can pull away more easily. Also they are much more environmentally friendly with staggeringly low emmisions, at 98g/Km.

I really enjoy driving the car myself, it is my "Office" if you like, and so needs to be comfortable or I wouldn't be able to work all day and keep a smile!

On the safety front, it has the full 5 stars for Euro NCAP crash tests and 6 air bags. The daytime running LED lights are both attractive and a great safety feature.

Although the car is not nearly as important as the instructor when it comes to learning to drive, I do feel that if you are driving a nice car it makes the whole experience even more enjoyable!

I have previously used a Toyota Yaris which was ok but not very exciting, a Mini, which was great to drive, a really funky car, but not robust enough for teaching as the clutch lasted just 35,000 miles. Before that I used a Clio, which was good but not really in the same class as the Citroen or the Mini.

Every car I have taught in has been diesel and I would not even consider petrol for teaching purposes - A low powered diesel is head and shoulders above a low powered petrol car on all fronts. Although more expensive to buy it has more power, more smoothness and better economy; but above all much lower emmisions, which makes me feel better as the engine is running most of the day!
